Lee Road Reconstruction & Asphalt Conversion
The Village of Northbrook will be reconstructing and converting Lee Road to asphalt. Lee Road serves as the primary connector between Lake-Cook Road and the Williamsburg Subdivision as well as the properties on Longmeadow Road and the Cove School. Lee Road currently consists of four concrete lanes, which have significantly deteriorated. Converting the road to asphalt will allow the Village to reduce the road to two lanes (requiring less future road maintenance and snow plowing) and calm the speed of local traffic. It will also increase the amount of green space in the area.

June 16, 2017
This week, the Village’s contractor prepared the sub-base along the east side of Lee Road, between Rudolph Drive and Williamsburg Drive; installed curb and remaining pieces of concrete sidewalk; placed binder asphalt pavement and started restoring the newly created parkway areas with topsoil. The temporary traffic signal was turned off because both lanes on Lee Road are open for traffic. With this work completed, the contractor removed the road closure of Rudolph Drive at Lee Road. Next week, the final surface layer of the pavement will be placed and restoration of the parkways completed. Lastly, pavement markings will be applied and appropriate traffic signage will be installed.
June 9, 2017
This week, the Village’s contractor paved the west side of Lee Road, between Rudolph Drive and Williamsburg Drive. With this section completed, the contractor transitioned traffic to the west side of the road and began working on the eastern side of Lee Road. The work zone is being controlled by a temporary traffic signal until completion of the project. During the ongoing portion of the construction, access to Rudolph Drive from Lee Road will not be permitted. Rudolph Drive is only accessible from Northbrook Court’s Ring Road. Signage has been placed along Lake Cook Road to notify motorists about Rudolph Drive’s closure at Lee Road. Next week, the contractor will install curb and sidewalk ramps, pave the remaining portion of roadway and fill-in the newly created parkway area with topsoil.
June 2, 2017
This week, the contractor moved to the section of Lee Road located south of Rudolph Drive and began removing the concrete pavement on the west side of this segment. Once that section is cleared, the contractor will pave it with asphalt and work will shift to the east side.
During this portion of the construction, access to Rudolph Drive from Lee Road will not be permitted. Traffic traveling through the work zone will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal for the remainder of the project.
May 26, 2017
This week, the Village's contractor began placing asphalt in the northern section of the project between Lake-Cook Road and Rudolph Drive. The existing traffic detour signs will be removed for the Memorial Day weekend and traffic can now travel on the newly paved roadway section. Next week, the contractor will move to the section south of Rudolph Drive and continue with the removal of the concrete pavement and the replacement of asphalt. At that time, Rudolph Drive will be closed and there will only be one lane open on Lee Road south of Rudolph Drive. A temporary traffic signal will be controlling traffic traveling north and southbound through the work zone for the remainder of the project.
May 19, 2017
The Village's contractor has continued with the removal of the deteriorated concrete pavement from Lake Cook Road to Rudolph Drive to make room for the new asphalt pavement. The existing traffic detour, via Northbrook Court Drive, will need to stay in place until the asphalt binder course can be installed in this section of the project. The contractor will then move to the next section of the work, south of and including the intersection of Lee Road with Rudolph Drive. This work will continue with the removal of the concrete pavement and the replacement of asphalt. At that time, Rudolph Drive will be closed and there will only be one lane open on Lee Road. A temporary traffic signal will be controlling traffic traveling north and southbound through the work zone.
May 12, 2017
This week, the Village’s contractor began the removal of the deteriorated concrete pavement at Lake-Cook Road and proceeded in a southward direction along Lee Road. Lee Road has been closed to through traffic between Lake-Cook Road and Rudolph Drive. A detour was put into place that routes traffic from Lake-Cook Road via Northbrook Court Drive to Rudolph Drive. This detour will be in place for approximately two weeks, weather permitting. Residents who live on Lee Road (between Lake-Cook and Rudolph) will continue to have access to their driveways during this work.

This week, the Village’s contractor finished pouring concrete sidewalk, driveway aprons, and the remaining gaps in the curb. Next week, the contractor will begin removal of the concrete panels on Lee Road. During this time, Lee Road will be closed to through traffic between Lake-Cook Road and Rudolph Drive. A detour will be in place that will route traffic from Lake-Cook Road via Northbrook Court Drive to Rudolph Drive. This detour will be in place for two weeks (weather permitting) and be marked with roadway signage. Residents who live on Lee Road (between Lake-Cook Road and Rudolph Drive) will have access to their driveways during this work.

The Village is currently working on a project to reconstruct and convert the section of Lee Road between Lake-Cook Road and Williamsburg Drive from concrete to asphalt. This week, the Village’s contractor began removing the outer drive lanes and driveway aprons to make space for new concrete curb and gutter. Next week, new sidewalk and concrete aprons will be poured. In addition, the remaining concrete panels will be removed. At that time, Lee Road will be closed for thru-traffic from Rudolph Road to Lake Cook Road. A detour will be in place utilizing the ring-road of the Northbrook Court Shopping Mall.

This week, the Village’s contractor began saw-cutting the concrete pavement and installing new storm sewer. Next week, crews will construct new curb and gutter, sidewalk and driveway aprons. Although the road is open for two-way traffic, motorists should be aware that there may be lane shifts and reduced lanes during this time.
