Permit Type & Scope Information
For information about any permit type, and scope of work in particular, click on one of the links below. You will find a list of applications/worksheets that are required and the number of copies necessary for our review. Each discipline that reviews that type of permit application is shown; certain permit types are reviewed and approved only by the Permit Coordinators (PC's). Some of these may be able to be completed / issued as "Over the Counter" permits right when you submit them.
Submitting Your Permit Application
Submit all required application documents to the PC's. The documents will be reviewed for completeness allowing them to be accepted into the permit system. Unless yours is a permit type that can be reviewed and approved by the PC's, the application will then be distributed for the individual discipline reviews.
Name a Primary Contact
Each application is required to have a "primary contact" person designated. All communications (including plan reviews, contractor license status, etc.) will be directed to this person.
Permit Application Review Times & Review Status
All applications have a projected initial review time frame associated with that type of permit. Most applications are reviewed by more than one discipline (Zoning, Building, Engineering, Tree Preservation, etc.) Ask the PC's about the projected review time when you submit your application. During the busier construction seasons, initial reviews may take longer than other times of the year. If you do not hear from the PC's relating to individual discipline status and you are nearing the projected initial review deadline, you may call the PC's (847-272-5050 ext.4241) for a status report.
When All Reviews Are Approved
When all the necessary reviews are approved, your application will be processed and fees assessed. The PC's will telephone you with the amount of fees that are due and any contractor licenses that have still not been made current.
When All Contractor Licenses Are Current
When all licenses are current, you may pick up and pay for your Permit.
When You Pick-up Your Permit & Begin Construction
The permit card is required to be displayed on the construction site along with the site address. The permit documents must be available on the site for reference.
