Storm and Sanitary Sewers

Storm Sewer Maintenance
Periodic maintenance of the storm sewer structures is required to maximize the life expectancy of the system and to ensure the overall structural integrity of the infrastructure.
Selected storm sewer lines are televised to determine the integrity of the storm sewer pipe and to note any suspected structural problems.
Selected storm sewer segments were cut/flushed as a preventive measure and to open potential blockages in the system.
In isolated and emergency circumstances, point repairs are performed on defective storm sewer trunk and service lines, and failed sections of culverts are replaced.
During periods of heavy and/or prolonged rainfall, crews are assigned to clean debris from storm sewer inlets. In addition, crews are immediately dispatched to respond to calls by residents whose basements are flooding due to plumbing backups, sump pump failures, overland flooding or seepage. Street or yard surface drainage problems are also accorded top priority.
Sanitary Sewers
Sanitary sewer operation and maintenance encompasses all activities and procedures to effectively manage, maintain, operate and repair the Village's sanitary sewer network so that an uninterrupted and reliable waste water collection, conveyance and disposal system is available to its users. The Village's system is operated as a local collector system within the area served by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) which provides regulatory control and guidelines on the amount and type of acceptable raw waste discharges that can be deposited into their interceptor lines for conveyance to regional treatment facilities. An aggressive preventive maintenance program is continuous at the twelve sanitary sewer lift stations.
