Criminal Investigations Unit
The Criminal Investigations Unit bears the responsibility of following up on criminal incidents when an offender is not immediately known. Investigators use a variety of tools including state-of-the-art surveillance equipment, computer-imaging software for creating composite sketches of offenders from witness statements, a myriad of computer databases, and specialized training.
This Unit also initiates investigations involving serious crimes such as homicides, sexual assaults, drug trafficking, arson, and financial crimes. Investigators receive various specialized training and the Unit has Investigators that are state certified as Computer Crimes Investigators, Evidence Technicians, Financial Crime Investigators, Juvenile Specialists and Arson Investigators. Aside from handling adult crime, Investigators are also cross-trained as Juvenile Specialists and are responsible for handling all investigations where a juvenile is the offender.
