[ARCHIVED] Plein Air Photography Festival - June 1-14

PHOTO plein Air Poster

This year, due to the cancellation of the Plein Air Painting Festival, the Northbrook Arts Commission is hosting a “Plein Air” Photography Festival for Northbrook residents only with over 100 prizes to Northbrook restaurants. Normally, Plein Air (French for “in the open air”) refers to a style of painting where the artist paints what is before them. In the spirit of Plein Air painting, this photography festival allows virtually any Northbrook resident to participate with a camera or smartphone!

The Festival, which takes place from Monday, June 1 to Sunday, June 14, will include daily challenges that will encourage you to celebrate life in our community, document this moment in history, and discover beauty that you might otherwise pass right by. Photo assignments will be issued twice per week with deadlines. Contestants will submit their digital photos online. Judges designated by the Northbrook Arts Commission will evaluate the entries for each daily challenge. Prizes will be awarded based on how well an entry meets the daily artistic assignment.

The Festival starts in 3, 2, 1...now! Take your photos in Northbrook, and submit them by Thursday, June 4, at 5pm through this online form. Here is your first set of challenges:

  1. An outdoor location in Northbrook that shows symmetry (same on both sides).
  2. A photo with the downtown Northbrook water tower (does not need to be the subject, just visible).
  3. A photo that includes a sign as part of the composition.
  4. An image photographed in black and white (or the subject is predominantly black/white/gray but photographed in color).

Winning photos will be announced twice per week on the Village of Northbrook Facebook page.
