[ARCHIVED] Get with the 9PM Routine

Pongo the police dog with car keys locking a car door

Prevent theft from your homes and vehicles with the "9PM Routine." This initiative promotes safe habits to make sure you’re protected.

Theft is a crime of opportunity - to avoid becoming a victim, remember to lock and secure your homes, vehicles, and valuables every night at 9pm. The Northbrook Police Department recommends completing the following checklist each night by 9pm:

  • Remove keys, wallets, cash, garage door openers, electronics, and other valuables from your vehicle(s).
  • Lock your vehicle(s).
  • Close your overhead garage door(s) and lock outside and inside garage doors.
  • Check your mail and bring contents inside.
  • Turn on outside lights.
  • Close and lock all doors and windows to your home.

As always, if you see something, say something! Don’t hesitate to report any suspicious activities or crimes to the Northbrook Police Department.
