Trick-or-Treating Guidelines

Signs for trick-or-treating

Due to COVID-19, Halloween may look different for many residents this year. If your household chooses to trick-or-treat, the Village suggests participants are done by sundown, which is around 6pm.

Please note the following safety guidelines:

  • Do not participate in trick-or-treating if you feel unwell, if someone in your house is unwell, if you are awaiting COVID-19 test results, or if you have been recently exposed to COVID-19.
  • All participants (trick-or-treaters, chaperones, candy distributors) should wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose. Consider wearing gloves or using tongs when handling candy. Use hand sanitizer regularly.
  • Keep all activity outdoors! We discourage ringing doorbells.
  • Participating households are encouraged to turn on their porch light(s) and to place a printable "trick-or-treaters welcome" sign somewhere visible, such as in the window or on the front door, to indicate they welcome trick-or-treaters. Households that prefer not to participate this year can place a printable “no trick-or-treaters” sign somewhere visible.
  • Get creative with your candy distribution! Consider leaving packaged candy on a sanitized table for children to reach while keeping a safe distance, or use your driveway rather than the porch.
  • Place 6-foot markers on your sidewalk, driveway, or front porch so trick-or-treaters know where to stand when collecting goodies.
  • Trick-or-treat as a household, not in groups with others.
