[ARCHIVED] UPRR Techny Road Bridge Repairs

Road Work Ahead construction sign

The Union Pacific Rail Road (UPRR) owns and maintains the bridge structure carrying the UPRR over Techny Road at 1603 Techny. The UPRR has determined that appropriate repairs are necessary, including exterior concrete removal and the replacement of the structure in areas such as the underside of the arch and external vertical faces of the structure.

Work began the week of October 5 and is expected to be complete in late December. Some minor work items (pavement paint markings, seeding, etc.) will be completed in the spring of 2021 due to temperature restrictions. Construction is taking place in phases with traffic on Techny Road being restricted to one lane near the bridge. On October 28, Techny Road was fully closed at the UPRR bridge due to unexpected extensive deterioration near the center of the structure. In order to safely complete the repair work, Techny Road will be closed to traffic at the bridge until the week of November 23.

Construction activities may take place between 7am and 7pm, Monday through Friday, and Saturdays between 9am and 5pm. If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact Matt Farmer, Village Engineer, at 847-664-4120.
