The Village of Northbrook and Northbrook Park District are excited to celebrate Independence Day with the traditional 4th of July fireworks and a new schedule of events for the community to enjoy together. 

Saturday, July 3
Dawn-Dusk – Pop-Up Pickleball in downtown Northbrook; visit northbrook.il.us/pickleball for more details
7:30am – Liberty Loop 5K Race; visit nbparks.org for more details and to register (deadline: July 2)
9am – Liberty Lap Fun Run; visit nbparks.org for more details and to register (deadline: July 2)
9am-5pm – Northbrook Public Library open
10am-6pm – Meadowhill Aquatic Center open
3-5pm – Music at Village Green Park; Night Baby will perform rock n’ roll covers in the southwest corner of the park
3-5pmNorthbrook History Museum reopens; celebrate the Museum’s 45th birthday and the nation’s 245th birthday
7-9pm – DJ performance at the Velodrome at Meadowhill Park
9pm (Dusk) – Watch Ferris Bueller’s Day Off at the Velodrome at Meadowhill Park

Other Events
4th of July Decorating Contest – Registration is now closed. A map of participants can be downloaded here. Residents and businesses are invited to enter a 4th of July decorating contest. Registrants will receive a “decorating pack” including a custom 4th of July sign, streamers, balloons, and other items for a festive display (while supplies last). Pictures of each display will be posted on the Village’s Facebook page for voting. The three displays with the most votes will win gift cards to Northbrook restaurants. Get more details below.
Neighborhood Bike Parades, July 3-4 – Registration is now closed. Sign up to host a neighborhood bike parade on your street. Registrants will receive “party packs” including sunglasses, pinwheels, mini flags, and more items for a festive parade (while supplies last). The Village will drop off and pick up traffic-control barricades (maximum time of two hours). Get more details below.

Participate in the Village of Northbrook's 4th of July Decorating Contest! Decorate your front yard, porch, house, or business for the community to see. Fill out this form by end of business on Friday, June 25, to be added to the Village's map of participants, to sign up to receive a "decorating pack," and to participate in the voting process on the Village's Facebook page (picture required for voting). 

Decorating packs can be picked up at Village Hall starting Monday, June 28, while supplies last. Packs include a custom 4th of July sign, streamers, balloons, flags, and other items for a festive display. During registration, participants may select whether or not they want to pick up a decorating pack. 

To be included in the voting process, participants must submit a photo of their display by 9am on Friday, July 2, to pr@northbrook.il.us. By noon on July 2, photos will be posted to the Village's Facebook page at facebook.com/northbrookillinois for voting (1 like = 1 vote). The three photos with the most likes will win gift cards to Northbrook restaurants ($100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd and 3rd place). Voting will close at 9am on Tuesday, July 6. 

Decorating Contest Rules & Regulations:

  • Displays must be appropriate for a family audience.
  • The Village of Northbrook reserves the right to exclude any displays that do not meet our guidelines or that feature content not aligned with our mission.
  • Displays are not a place for commercial marketing.
  • Registrations are limited to one per household, per location.
  • Registration for the decorating contest and/or tagging with related photos or videos on social media grants the Village of Northbrook permission to use your images, media, and footage on any platform.

Neighborhood Bike Parades –  Registration closed. Residents will be responsible for putting out the barricades on the date and time they have selected and returning them to the location they were dropped off at. Barricades can be used for a maximum time of two hours.

Sign up to host a neighborhood bike parade on your street either Saturday, July 3, or Sunday, July 4! Fill out this form by end of business on Friday, June 25, to participate.

Party packs can be picked up at Village Hall starting Monday, June 28, while supplies last. During registration, participants may select whether or not they want to pick up a party pack. 

The Village will drop off and pick up traffic-control barricades (maximum time of two hours). When the bike parade is over, barricades must be returned to the location they were dropped off at as to not obstruct traffic. Barricades will be dropped off before 3pm on Friday, July 2, and picked up following the 4th of July weekend.

Note: The street must be cleared within two minutes for any emergencies. This means no permanent objects in street during the scheduled event.
