[ARCHIVED] Oak Trees Need Attention

Low-Angle Photography of Trees

The Public Works Department is noticing and receiving reports about Oak trees in need of attention. Oak trees that are stressed by drought or temperature extremes become more susceptible to pests and diseases.

Now is the time to have your trees monitored for Twolined Chestnut Borer. This pest attacks Oak trees and causes their premature death. You will know if an Oak tree has this pest by looking at the bottom 12 to 15 feet of the trunk and noticing any d-shaped holes. If your Oak tree does show signs of this pest, now is the time to apply a treatment to prevent the pest from causing more damage in your tree. Contact a Certified Arborist to help create and implement a treatment plan. Public Works is monitoring and treating Village owned Oak trees, as needed.

For more information about this pest and Oak decline in our urban forest, contact the Forestry Division at 847-272-4711 or by email at terry.cichocki@northbrook.il.us to receive a copy of our latest bulletin about Oak decline.
