On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney’s Office filed charges against Tadeusz Kurzynowski, a resident of Northbrook, for Aggravated Assault of a State Employee with a Weapon, a Class 4 Felony.
According to the allegations, while speaking in front of Mr. Kurzynowski’s residence with a Village of Northbrook employee performing their Village duties, Mr. Kurzynowski allegedly reentered his home and returned holding a small black handgun. The employee reported that Mr. Kurzynowski then pointed the weapon at the employee’s forehead with his finger on the trigger. The Village employee left the scene physically unharmed.
The incident was subsequently reported to the Northbrook Police, who responded to the incident, obtaining a search warrant for Mr. Kurzynowski’s residence. He was taken into custody without incident, and all firearms and ammunition were removed from his residence as part of the investigation.
Village Manager Cara Pavlicek expressed her appreciation for the prompt actions of the Northbrook Police Department, stating, “I am grateful to the Northbrook Police Department and the officers involved in the initial response to this disturbing situation, and I am thankful that no employees were injured. There is no reason for a Village employee performing public services in an interactive manner to be threatened with violence.”
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
