The Village of Northbrook’s Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project has reached a key milestone with 30% of new meters installed since work began in April. As of Thursday, June 12, 2025, a total of 3,601 installations have been completed.
The areas where the meters have been installed are identified on the map below.
Why It Matters
The AMI Project represents a major modernization of Northbrook’s water system. Replacing aging mechanical meters with new smart meters improves service, increases efficiency, and provides near real-time data that helps residents monitor usage, detect leaks, and manage water bills.
With AMI technology, meter readings are securely transmitted to the Village without the need for in-person visits. Costumers are provided with an online portal so they can take full ownership of their water usage.
What Residents and Businesses Need to Do
Meter replacements are happening across all billing zones. Postcards have been mailed to eligible addresses with instructions to schedule an appointment. Appointments are scheduled in 2-hour windows, but most take just 30 minutes to complete.
If you're due for a replacement and haven’t scheduled yet, now is the time. Convenient appointment times are filling quickly.
Missed a Notice? Watch for a Door Tag
If Village staff or Veregy (the Village’s partner for this project) cannot reach you to schedule an appointment, you may receive a color-coded notice on your door:
Green Card: First missed notification
Yellow Card: Second missed notification
Orange Card: Final notice – response required
Failure to schedule could result in further action, including water service interruption.
