Since 2009, Illinois law has allowed municipalities to arrange electricity supply for residential and small commercial customers through alternative electric suppliers (i.e., suppliers other than ComEd). This process is known as electricity load aggregation. ComEd continues to deliver electricity and remains responsible for customer services such as billing and outage response.
The Village currently has an aggregation contract with MC Squared Energy Services. Under this program, there is no change in the electricity rate when supply is switched from ComEd to MC Squared.
Periodically, some residents and small businesses may receive supplier-change notices from ComEd indicating that MC Squared Energy Services, the Village’s electric aggregation supplier, is now serving their account. In addition, some customers may receive letters from MC Squared about returning to ComEd-supplied power. These notices apply only to a portion of participants, so not all customers will receive a letter.
Participants may opt out of the program at any time with no fees. To opt out, call (855) 697-0286 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.) or email Northbrook@mc2energyservices.com.
