Stormwater Management
The Village of Northbrook proactively works to reduce the impact of flooding and stormwater in the community through a combination of maintaining and expanding infrastructure, getting residents involved in stormwater management and educating the public about what we can collectively do to lessen the impact of flooding. Look for resources on stormwater, ways you report issues or help and information on maintenance and the Village’s long-term plans on the following pages:

Northbrook Stormwater Utility
Given the breadth and magnitude of the stormwater issues throughout Northbrook, the Village is addressing this as a community-wide program through the creation of a new Stormwater Utility Fund, which will provide a dedicated revenue source and allow for a full accounting of the operating, capital, and debt service costs associated with providing ongoing stormwater management services.

Private Stormwater Management Facilities
The requirement to detain stormwater runoff on-site has arisen from the increase of impervious coverage throughout the Village. This increase of impervious coverage through larger single family residences, swimming pools, tennis courts, patios, and more has reduced areas where stormwater drainage can absorbed naturally into the ground prior to entering into the Village’s storm sewer infrastructure.
