Vehicle Licenses

Under the municipal code, all motor vehicles owned by a Village resident or by a person or entity (including associations, clubs. societies, firms, partnerships and bodies politic and corporate) having its principle place of business in the Village requires a Village vehicle license (often called a "vehicle sticker"). This page discusses the license, how to get one and how to pay for it.

Stickers Required for Village Residents and Businesses

All motor vehicles owned by a Village resident or entity (as defined at the beginning of this page) with its principle place of business. Not sure if you're in the Village or not? Use the Know Your Neighborhood Jurisdictional Boundaries Map and entered your address in the upper left hand search bar. Areas in green are in a Village's boundaries. Just click the green area to see which municipality you are in. If you're are not in the Village, you are not required to get a Village vehicle. Please note that those living in unincorporated Cook County are required to purchase a Cook County sticker.

When to Buy a Sticker

Sticker Renewals

If you have previously purchased a sticker from the Village, you must purchase a renewal each year on or before June 30. Stickers are available for purchase each year for the next year beginning on June 1 at the Village Hall front counter. Current residents who have purchased Village vehicle stickers and are in our database will automatically receive renewal applications in the mail towards the end of May of each calendar year.

New Residents and Businesses

Residents and businesses who are moving into the community have a 45 day grace period in which to purchase stickers for their vehicles. Stickers can be purchased at Village Hall.

Where to Place the Sticker

The Village vehicle sticker must be affixed to the lower left windshield of the vehicle. When purchasing the renewal sticker, please remove the old sticker and place the new one in its place.

Can I Transfer a Sticker?

Yes. If you purchase a new vehicle and want to transfer your sticker, you can at no cost. Simply contact the Finance Department at 847-272-5050 to notify the Village.

Support 4th of July and Receive a Special Vehicle Sticker

Residents will have an option to make a donation, minimum $20 per sticker, to help support Northbrook’s 4th of July festivities. There are only 2,000 special vehicle stickers, so purchase yours early.

Vehicle Sticker Fees

The schedule of fees for vehicle stickers can be found below. Please note that seniors (age 65 and older) receive a 50% discount off the automobile and motorcycle license fees and all stickers cna be replaced for $1.00 per sticker.
