Submitting Permit Applications

• Please email all submittal documentation / drawings to Permits@Northbrook.il.us

Payment of Permit Fees

• Please visit the Village of Northbrook online payment portal to pay permit fees with a credit card.

New Construction

• New Commercial Building - Construction of a new building

Addition and Alteration

• Addition - Increase in floor area of an existing building
• Interior Alteration - Change to the interior of an existing building
• Alteration - Northbrook Court - Change to the interior of a Northbrook Court business
• Kiosk - Northbrook Court - New kiosk construction at Northbrook Court
• Exterior Alteration - See Addition for application requirements
• Alternative Energy Source - Installation of solar panels, geothermal, etc.

Demolition

• Demolition Permit - Demolition of an existing commercial structure
• Interior Demolition - For interior demolition only (Separate Interior Demolition permit application not required if applying for an Interior Alteration permit)

Exterior / Yard

• Fence - New fence or fence replacement
• Lawn Sprinkler - Underground irrigation system
• Site Work - Change is site grading or installation of retaining wall, swale, basin, etc.
• Tree Removal - Removal of trees located on private property
• Parking Lot Resurfacing/Re-striping - Remove / replace, reconfiguration or new lot
• Sign Permit - New temporary or permanent signage

Mechanical, Electric, Plumbing & Sewer

• Mechanical - New mechanical system or changes to an existing system
  
• Electrical - Electrical upgrades or installation of new wiring, outlets, etc.
• Commercial Low-Voltage - Low voltage wiring system installation and extensions.
• Generator - Backup power during an electricity outage
• Telecommunications Antennae - New or replacement of antenna equipment
• Plumbing - Plumbing upgrades or installation of new fixtures, etc.
• Sewer Repair - Repair an existing sewer line
• Commercial Water Service Repair - Repair an existing commercial water service
• Alternative Energy Source - Installation of solar panels, geothermal, etc.

Other Permit Types

• Elevator - Addition of or alteration to an elevator or lift system
• Fire Protection Systems - Requires separate permit submittal from projects shown above
