2019 Construction Map
To help residents and businesses quickly and easily find information on the various construction projects occurring in the community, the Village has created an interactive construction map for the 2019 season. This map includes information on each project and links for more information. To view the map, click on this link.
Village Projects
The Village of Northbrook strives to maintain the Village’s water, sewer, and surface infrastructure in a safe and stable condition. If you are interested in learning more about the status of private development projects within the Village, please visit the Ongoing Development Activities page. Pages have been established for each of the public projects to provide residents with current information on the status of these projects. The following are public projects of the Public Works Department:

Arterial Sidewalk Program - Summer 2019
The Village of Northbrook systematically surveys public sidewalks to identify defective and deteriorated sections of sidewalk that create a potential hazard and a liability for the Village. The 2019 program will focus on improvements on the sidewalk along Willow Road and Landwehr Road between Willow and Techny Road.

Asphalt Street Resurfacing Program - 2019
Asphalt streets are selected for rehabilitation based on a computerized pavement management system (IMS), a thorough review of the condition of the pavement surface/base conditions by Public Works staff, pavement condition in relation to the adjacent streets, timing to select and complete the most cost effective rehabilitation measure and coordination with other Village infrastructure projects. The 2019 program will focus on rehabilitating portions of Woodlawn Road and the entirety of Penfold Place and Picardy Circle.

Blackthorn Lane Stormwater Project - 2019
This project involves improving the street drainage system on Blackthorn lane by increasing inlet capacity along the street and within the low street area.

This project involves supplementing the existing storm sewer on Brittany with new sewer.

Concrete Street Reconstruction - 2018
The Village of Northbrook proactively reviews the condition of our utility systems, water and sewers, on an annual basis and updates our recommended five-year Capital Improvement Plan. The 2018 program will focus on the complete reconstruction of Anthony Trail between Macarthur and Commercial Avenues.

Concrete Street Panel Replacement - 2019
The Village of Northbrook proactively reviews the condition of our utility systems, water and sewers, on an annual basis and updates our recommended five-year Capital Improvement Plan. The 2019 program will focus on concrete panel replacements in the Heathercrest East subdivision.

Dehne Road/Glendale Ave Stormwater Project - 2018
This project involves work at the intersection of Dehne Road and Glendale Avenue to increase swale capacity and reduce the impact of flooding at and near the intersection.

Dehne Subdivision Stormwater Project - 2019
This project involves replacement of the existing culverts and regarding along Dehne and Brentwood Roads.

Dundee Road Bridge/Culvert Replacement - 2018
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is planning to replace the existing box culvert on Dundee Road over the Middle Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River at the intersection with Lee Road. This page covers both IDOT's and the Village's projects related to this work.

Elm Ridge Drive Project - 2018
This project involves replacement of the existing concrete culvert under Elm Ridge Drive. These structures have begun to show signs of degradation and are in need of replacement.

This project involves replacement of storm sewer along Landwehr Road, Ridge Drive and Sunset Trail.

This project involves replacement of storm sewer at the intersection of Longvalley Drive and Longvalley Court.

Second Street Culvert Replacement Project - 2019
This project involves replacement of an existing culvert on Second Street as well as drainage improvements to the areas immediately east and west.

Shermer Road Bridge/CBD Improvements - 2018
The Central Business District (CBD) is the Village’s downtown area, which includes retailers and restaurants, the Village Green Park and Northbrook’s Metra Station. Following the 2017 work on the streets and streetscape of the CBD, the 2018 project will finalize the project by replacing the Shermer Road bridge and completing some minor paving work on Shermer Road.

Woodlawn Road Stormwater Project - 2018
This project involves work on the 2000 and 2100 blocks of Woodlawn Road, including adding inlets, regrading ditches and replacing driveway culverts.

Woodlawn/Penfold Water Main Improvements - 2019
As part of the Village’s review of the Water Fund and the development of water rate study, a water main replacement program was included. The focus of this program is replacement of the 6-inch diameter cast iron main within the water distribution system as the majority of water main breaks occur on this type of main. The main on Woodlawn Road (between Shermer and Western) has been identified for replacement due to its age. This project will also involve installing a new main on Penfold Place.

Edens Spur Improvements Project - 2019
The Illinois Tollway is repairing the Edens Spur from Lake Cook Road to Pfingsten Road and will reconstruct the roadway from Pfingsten Road to the Edens Expressway. This page provides basic overview information of the project and links to other resources.
Private Infrastructure Improvement Projects:
The following projects are funded and managed in whole or part by private developers who are completing improvements to public infrastructure as part of an agreement with the Village. Questions regarding these projects should be directed to the contacts associated with each project.
Skokie/Sunset Ridge Infrastructure Improvements
The developer of the 1000 Skokie project is completing certain improvements to Skokie Boulevard and Sunset Ridge Road as part of the development. Learn more about this work on this page.
Capital Improvement Plan (CIP)
The Village proactively plans for the replacement and rehabilitation of this infrastructure through its CIP. The CIP spans 5 years and is reviewed annually. It should be noted that the CIP is a planning document and all projects are subject to funding in the annual budget. View the current 2017-2018 Capital Improvement Plan (PDF).
